Our national curriculum is more important now than ever. It must lift standards. It must embed evidence-based practices. It must give an optimistic view of our nation. I won’t be supporting anything less.

State Premiers allowing kids to go back to the classroom would be a great start!

I mean, our history is horrible. Where is the optimism and positivity in slavery? How can you be so heartless towards Aboriginal people as to just whitewash everything?

All good except about embedding practices. Definitely need to endorse, promote and provide support for evidence-based practices. But core standards don’t need to be mired with operational concerns.

Our history is also of genocide and illegal war and war crimes and a full account must be made in any national history. Further to that a national truth-telling process must occur to end this cycle of mindless culture war over history in schools.

History needs to be about the truth which in our case is not entirely positive.

Is 'optimism' and 'patriotism' evidence-based?
