More convinced than ever that Oxford is the greatest town on earth (reasons I'll share another day). This video starts on Walton Well Rd. The factory's now flats. The guitarist, she is sadly deceased. The singer I saw in the dentists waiting room last year piped.kavin.rocks/Zq3qjtP9dj8

Not one for selfies but delighted to say I saw @ProfCalumSemple and @PeterHorby in 3D last night (and we all picked the wrong end of the camera phone to make eye contact with.)

If you're looking for an indulgent child/adult present this has entertained two strata of children in our house so far. Be prepared for the adults to be intellectually stretched about 2/3 through the book, and possibly.. to get stuck. Which is good! turingtumble.com/

Derek Bailey's documentary on improvisation is on YouTube. A great window into where structured composition comes from but: also, if you think music is a mirror onto other cognitive activity, all utterances and novel intellectual output. piped.kavin.rocks/w3aaHHMUUog

I know the point of Beethoven, or great visual art, is that it's not nonverbal intelligence. But the flavour of this chili olive oil, combined with parmesan + (slightly weird) German red in my mouth.. is really preoccupying. Like, an intellectually overwhelming sensorial cavern.

Rogue "not" in that sentence. I'd like to say the sentiment stands but I've finished dinner and now it's impossible to remember what all the fuss was about.

Someone used a microscope to understand the classic 80s Yamaha DX7 synth sound chip. Greatly enjoyed the academic paper about the E Piano 1 preset in the footnotes.

Good response to silly piece claiming preprints responsible for covid misinformation. Traditional mechanisms for assuring / communicating scientific research are costly, slow, fail on their own objectives, and have bad side effects. Kneejerk appeals to conserve them are misguided

"Oxford activists bring traffic to a halt in Cop26 climate march" Here's what brings traffic to a halt in Oxford every day: drivers, in their cars, in a city with terrible cycle paths but 1,000 parking spaces built in the Westgate centre by the council. oxfordmail.co.uk/news/196998…

If this isn’t tempting for a product person with an interest in health and data, I really don’t know what would be…
Come and work with us as a PRODUCT MANAGER in a team making open source tools for NHS data analysis. You heard right: we are in a university, but we are also a reasonably mature digital team, we know that product managers exist (gasp) we know what they do and we want a great one!
