Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead

New normal: low but non-zero cases, no herd immunity, fair # of unvaxxed folks around (varies by region). What will I now do (in SF; and I'm boosted): Eat indoors (prefer out); travel for fun/work; small indoor gatherings if sure all vaxxed; theater/concert if vax/mask required.
For past 18 mths, my personal Covid choices (very cautious) were driven by prospects of ⬇risk in future, mostly via vaccines. My current view is that we're nearing a new normal, at least for next few yrs. It drives me to choices on travel, dining, etc that feel right, long-term.

My mom's coworker, who refuses to get the COVID vaccine because she "cares about what she puts in her body" is getting a fecal transplant to lose weight. They argued today and my mom said,"I can't believe you won't get a vaccine but you will put other peoples' shit in your body!"

I told my kids #NoOnRecall is looking good my nine year old sighed in relief and said, "I just want someone who is not insane to be governor. Is that too much to ask?"

“Rat out your neighbors’ personal medical decisions and the state will reward you with $10,000” sounds a hell of a lot more Soviet than most of the things Republicans these days denounce as “communism."

Excellent analogy.
In school, if a kid has a peanut allergy, no kids get to eat peanut butter sandwiches or snacks that have peanuts, if a kindergartner can understand that they are doing for the safety of that one, why can’t anti-maskers understand that masks are for the safety of others?

Targeting Biden and excluding him from the Eucharist because of his political stances makes the Catholic Church a political organization. Tax them.

If we strike, don’t fret! You’ll still have something to read. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover of our Strike Issue—written, edited, fact-checked, designed, and produced by @newyorkerunion members. “In Solidarity”: art by @BormesGenevieve; animation by @neetadotworks.

Nonprofit workers, read this thread! I work for a union that represents nonprofit workers and just last week we reached an agreement that provides raises of up to 27 percent- and lots of amazing non-economic improvements.
one more day at this job and all I have left to say is this: young people going into the nonprofit sector, don't wait 6 years to unionize. don't break your heart and back trying to make your org better with committees and open letters and meetings with HR. get a union now.

I think the problem is that everybody needs gentleness right now and also everybody is too tired to be gentle with others

I'm feeling this today with the new CDC guidance.
Feeling like there is zero guidance for those of us who are vaccinated but have unvaccinated children.
