I was going to agree with you just because of my high respect for your past work/efforts but anyone trying to call Russia's actions Putin's is misleading his readership. And so after that I have to say that Russia's position is not primarily offensive but defensive.

but unfortunately the citizens of Russia are not in power in their own country, Putin holds all the power. So in this unfortunate reality , how are we to achieve detente?
