On his visit to Thar coal projects in Block I & II, including Engro Powergen Thar power plant, Federal Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir @kdastgirkhan was briefed by Engro Energy CEO Yusuf Siddiqui on the importance of Thar coal for energy security of Pakistan.

He was apprised of the achievements of Engro Powergen Thar project towards import substitution ($290 million since COD), cheaper energy supplies and community impact. The Minister assured full support to Thar coal projects for their socio-economic contribution towards Pakistan.

Energy security remains one of the most pressing issues in Pakistan. An import-driven energy policy is not sustainable for the country, therefore, we must fully tap the potential of indigenous resources.
