Growing up, my Muslim family never celebrated Christmas. This year I am not going home, because pandemic, so my roommates are teaching me how to have my first proper Christmas. I am approaching this with anthropological precision. Here are a few observations.

Fell asleep, was awakened by coyotes. Went out to haze the motherfuckers. If you kill the coyotes, you just get more coyotes. So I'm working on the theory that teaching them Dog Skull is a bad scary place to be is better.

I love how everyone on the internet winds up with a "thing," like Scalzi got burritos and Ursula got exploding whales and so on. And based on this year, I got frogs and Mari Lwyd. I'll take it.

Do people know that most shelters cost money to stay at? And require you to be out during the day & beg for your place again every night? You're also heavily monitored. It's an institution (I'm p sure they all fail the Burrito Test). When I was homeless they were all always full.

What’s the German word for “Perfectly comfortable beneath the blankets except for that one square inch of exposed skin merrily freezing away and you’re too close to sleep to decide whether you should move the blankets or sacrifice it for the greater good so your dreams get weird”

1. A new bill would subject Ohio to a more extreme abortion ban than Texas. It would outlaw all abortions. It may even prohibit certain kinds of birth control. The sponsors of the bill are backed by prominent corporations. Follow along if interested. popular.info/p/these-corpora…

Many, *many* people facing terminal diagnoses have thrown themselves into advocacy – knowing full well they couldn't save themselves, they did it for those who would come after. Maybe someone else's kids wouldn't lose their mom. To erase their sacrifices is an insult.

The conduct TSA admits to, would in almost any other context, meet the law's definition of sexual assault. TSA is a failed agency, a stain on this country, and it should no longer exist.
Megan Beezley said she was rattled after a TSA officer made her show five forms of identification before allowing her to move through the security line at Raleigh-Durham International Airport to catch her flight home to Colorado. wapo.st/3DMyoX1

It says a lot that I'm so conditioned into the fear of being perceived as a chronic illness faker or as a dramatic pain patient...that I also fear having a good day and I fear appearing too happy Because the good and the happy are constantly held against us.
