Just a reminder that if you choose to publish in an #Elsevier journal, be aware that 23,300 faculty, 47,000 post-docs, 59,000 grad students, and 226,000 undergrads at the 10 #universityofcalifornia campuses will not be able to access it.

All the bizarre and horrifying things he did are going to come back to us at random moments like half-remembered scraps of dreams.

Ugh I didn’t think to expect first-day-of-lecturing voice strain on first-day-recording-lectures-again, but here we are.
How to record video lectures with a ring light — when you wear glasses. :( (Yes that’s an overturned flower pot)

A historic piece of journalism: ⁦@propublica⁩ has gathered the real-time video record of the assault on the Capitol as posted on Parler. The site is offline but the evidence is right here. projects.propublica.org/parl…

I never hear concerns about how the McDonald’s CEO making $18,012,549 per year might drive up the price of a Big Mac.

By nominating this science team, @JoeBiden and I are sending a clear message: We are going to make sure the U.S. once again leads the way in science and innovation, harnessing the world’s collective knowledge to unlock new cures, new breakthroughs, and new possibilities for all.

For those who might be wondering what a network model of reading comprehension looks like. Clear strong association with language experience but also with domain-specific verbal measures (decoding, fluency) AND general non-verbal reasoning & WM. Inhibition & speed less important.

Cool psychometric study led by @SaraAGoring, on individual differences in reading comprehension & what we can conclude from network & latent variable model reanalyses of a multi-task dataset. From the @AndrewRAConway lab.
Excited to present my manuscript recently accepted at JML : osf.io/6gnbs/ Thank you to my coauthors @cjschmank, @Kane_WMC_Lab, and @AndrewRAConway!

Indeed! Note that some sea shanties don't romanticize the whaling biz. See this sad song by the Woods Tea Co. about dangers and exploitation: invidio.us/watch?v=arTgYVJx…
You all love the sea shanties but how many of you are ready for the realities of the boat life including constant condensation dripping on your face at night and the surprise (not so much) of finding mold under your brand new bed? (Hint: I wasn’t!)

This was an insightful project for me. I was quick to jump on the "measurement error gets psychology once again" bandwagon, yet after carefully looking into it and approaching the problem how I best could, I came to a different conclusion. It's made me recognize my own biases 🤔
1/n Alright, recent discussions re the Dunning-Kruger effect sparked my interest, and I have put together a blog on building a generative model of the classic effect! (the start of what I hope to be a series) Link: haines-lab.com/post/2021-01-…

I’m probably one of the few on here that is overwhelmed by nostalgia at all the love that sea shanties are suddenly getting. I’ve never been a seaman, but in high school in the mid ‘80s my imagination was captured by a modest musical trio from Vermont, “The Woods Tea Co.” 1/2

I first saw them at an Irish Fest in upstate NY, & over the years caught them wherever I could, at bars, festivals, campuses. As funny & kind as they were talented, & generously agreed to play at our wedding. A wonderful mix of trad folk, Celtic & yes, sea shanties. 2/3

Sadly, 1 of the original members left in the 90s & the other w have since died. I still break out my copies of their albums frequently, & was delighted to find their live recording on Spotify. Give them a listen sometime. open.spotify.com/album/5rvGJ…
