This post explains ADHD way better than I’ve ever seen it explained before.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it really does need to be called executive dysfunction disorder. I hate when I bring up my ADHD and people are like "that's just trouble focusing don't make excuses for other behavior" ADHD was named for the symptom that annoys people

*neurotypical people, not for what it actually does to us.

This is spot on and relatable, but for many of us it's not the full picture. It's understood now that there is also a high comorbity between ADHD/ADD, ASD, and OCD. There is evidence that atypical interconnectivity of the brain's hemispheres plays a role in all 3.

this is interesting stuff! i'm already diagnosed with asperger's but I still relate to these adhd posts a bit too much for my comfort - I've been thinking about getting it checked out, but I've always doubted whether it was just my autism or not

no because people with adhd are screaming at themselves to do stuff but can’t, people without it just choose not to

Neat to see this explained this way as I was always told that it was the inability to focus and I simply believed it as it seemed fairly true (from my own experiences) but this explanation describes it much better especially the part about doing something when it needs to be done

That’s interesting. My parents have always thought I was simply lazy for the same reasons. I’d spend all day in school making board games and comics on my desk while everyone else learned. Normal and necessary tasks have always been almost unbearably boring for me

I spent many a Social Studies class programming my graphic calculator to draw fractals and pictures, in addition to doodling in every notebook and "enhancing" all of the illustrations in my French textbook.
