Is this a phishing attempt? Goes to "githubverification.com" and asks for username and pw (if so, it nearly got me!) /cc @github

I don't like that my view of Open Source is shifting toward it being the software development equivalent of logo contests for graphic artists. It seems to have turned from labor contributed to the community by the privileged to an abusive global demand for free labor.

Yesterday I had a fascinating conversation with some very nice people who genuinely thought ‘big tech’ took down Parler because people were using it to argue about the election. They hadn’t see any of this, from AWS’s filing. This is why they took down Parler.

Have we considered that maybe all of Trump’s actions, from screwing up the Corona response to inciting insurrection and sedition, was deliberately to make them close off the Mall, thus ensuring that he has a larger inaugural crowd than his successor?

712,000 of us call DC home. We pay the highest per capita federal income taxes in the US, yet have no representation in Congress. We’re now under siege because Trump incited an insurrection. We need #DCStatehoodNow. statehood.dc.gov/
Welcome to DC. Stay home.

I regret nothing:
Did you know today is @werner's birthday? We don't know exactly where he is right now to wish him a happy birthday personally, so we made him a video instead.

“Won’t admit it” my foot; here at the Duckbill Group we have a dedicated Spite Budget for this express purpose.
Most founders won't admit it, but nothing motivates someone quite like proving doubters wrong.

Yes... Because the real problem with Facebook plans to strip away any semblance of privacy from WhatsApp was the DATE on which it would happen. ... Just the date.

I give @ibm an absolute mountain of shit, but they got this one right.
IBM’s VP of gov & reg affairs tells me that “rather than just suspending PAC contributions as a signal-sending exercise” IBM, which doesn’t do political contributions, wants “to try to reform government.” (Yes I also asked abt Cohn) nytimes.com/live/2021/01/15/…

Here’s a hot take: @awscloud isn’t “strip mining” open source, but it is giving its own offerings free replication, and not granting that perk to anything other companies make or sell.

Specifically, replicating data between availability zones. 2¢ per gigabyte transferred for everything except AWS managed service offerings.

That’s $20k per petabyte replicated, each time it gets replicated. Some sites replicate dozens of petabytes a month.
