VP: “Is there a particular recommended dress code for visiting the detainees?”
Border Patrol: “Sir, you can’t go wrong with tan slacks and blue blazers.”
Urge everyone to read the Working Document for the Synod on the Amazon. Despite criticism from certain corners, this is a prophetic, inspired vision of a path forward for the church in the 21st century. Among Pope Francis’ most important legacies. bit.ly/2KGU0Ml
This is the church of the Beatitudes, St Francis, St Hildegard, the mystics and prophets, that hears the cry of the poor and the earth, that rejects colonialism and patriarchy, embraces dialogue, the role of women, indigenous wisdom, ecology—and yes, all in the spirit of Jesus.
I posted the Prep Document rather than the Working Doc which begins: “All of this occurs within a dynamic process of listening and discerning the new paths whereby the Church in the Amazon will announce the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the coming years.”bit.ly/2KGU0Ml
This is true—my mistake. The Instrumentum laboris is even more remarkable. Shocking that Cardinal Mueller is so dismissive toward the teaching of Laudato Si and the work of his brother bishops. bit.ly/2KGU0Ml
Yes, he is very disturbed by this—seems much less disturbed, or not all, by the destruction of the Amazon and the oppression of its residents, which do not rise to the level of a theological/pastoral challenge.
Thanks for this correction. I have now read the Wprkimg Document and I am even more enthusiastic: a vision for the church and evangelization for the 21st century. It is also rooted in the teachings of Pope Francis, which Cardinal Mueller evidently deems heretical and stupid.
Urge everyone to read the prep document for the Amazonia synod. It is moving, challenging and inspiring. So sad to read the cardinal’s crude and dismissive caricature. bit.ly/30ugRP5
Feast of St Veronica. According to legend, she encountered Christ as he labored under the Cross on his way to Golgotha. Moved by compassion she wiped his face with her veil which later miraculously bore the features of his face.
There is no indication she was a follower of Jesus—simply a woman who responded compassionately to a man in pain, a felon on his way to death. We need not have lived 2000 yrs ago to replicate her deed. Every person in need is an occasion: “Insofar as you did this to the least...”
