In analyzing the President: On the need for new pundits—for whom his behavior is not “remarkable” but entirely predictable.
Replying to @amandaripley
The word “remarkable” appears almost as often in the Post, averaging every other day since 2016. If something happens that often, it can’t be all that remarkable. medium.com/s/reasonable-doub…

These walls can speak?
Does it matter if these beliefs are not true? That top military believed Japan was ready to surrender with assurance that they could keep their Emperor? That Germany chose not to pursue the a-bomb (it would take too long) and Japan never pursued it?

Too bad you didn’t speak to the chaplain at Tinian, Fr George Zabelka, who also believed these things but who came to believe he was “brainwashed” and devoted his life to atoning for use of the bomb. sojo.net/magazine/august-198…

Slated for film festivals this fall, I believe.
That media and most Americans still don’t know the difference between “no first use” and “no first strike” is a sign of our illiteracy on this vital issue. Yet Warren is taking a position that even 4 years ago would have been disqualifying for any serious candidate. Progress!
Replying to @SenWarren
.@realDonaldTrump wants to upgrade our nuclear arsenal AND end decades-old arms control agreements. That's a recipe for disaster. Congress must immediately pass my #NoFirstUse bill to prevent him (or any president) from unilaterally starting a nuclear war. cnn.com/2019/01/30/politics/…

First strike is capacity to attack an adversary’s nuclear arsenal and command-control centers. This is what puts our ICBMs on hair trigger alert and threatens global destruction via nuclear winter. It is literally a Doomsday Machine. amazon.com/Doomsday-Machine-…

Most Americans believe it is US policy not to use nuclear weapons first against non-nuclear foe. This is false. No president since Truman has pledged to take this option “off the table.” No first use must be joined with dismantling 1st strike option. Warren has begun the debate.

The questions raised by the ongoing existence of nuclear weapons, and our hurtling pace toward irreversible climate change, dwarf all other moral and political questions.

Great story, though ironically, your encounter may have confirmed his belief that everything happens for a reason!

I send tweets deploring Trump for the same reason as tweets remembering saints and heroic lives: both are ways of honoring truth and goodness, just in opposite ways.

A great witness in the struggle for racial justice and healing. When she was 17, in 1965, Episcopal seminarian Jonathan Daniels died taking a bullet that was intended for her. Ever since then she has made her life count. She is someone to listen to.
This is my talk. A little bit slower than usual but heartfelt. I hope that you feel me feeling you. . ted.com/talks/ruby_sales_how…

FD of St. Brigid of Ireland (550). Born a slave, baptized by St. Patrick, she founded a double monastery (men and women) in Kildare, one of the great centers of the Celtic church. She induced a bishop to share her leadership; legend has it that he ordained her as a fellow bishop

I was also pleased to see in the print version that there is a picture of my father (otherwise not mentioned) with the caption: “@DanielEllsberg, father of @OrbisBooks publisher Robert Ellsberg.” Showing that the tree doesn’t fall far from the apple.
