Pope Francis: “It's not a question of giving more functions to women in the Church ... it's a question of integrating the woman as the image of the Church into our thinking… and also of thinking of the Church with the categories of a woman.” Oh dear...

As one who loves Pope Francis I long for the day he gives up talking about the “feminine genius,” or “the categories of a woman” and sees that “woman” will not be the image of the Church until women can exercise full leadership and authority in the church. vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/…

Because he’s not actually concerned with terrorism, but with appealing to his white base. Nor is he actually concerned with voter fraud; that is just a device to promote voter suppression. Next?

St Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna, was martyred in 155. It was said that his was a “martyrdom comfortable to the gospel”—that is, a mystical re-enactment of Christ’s passion. He was said to stand praying amidst the flames “as bread baking or as gold and silver refined in a furnace.”

Just saw the extraordinary off-broadway revival of The Trial of the Catonsville 9–All parts played by 3 actors. A stunning tribute to those then and now who stake their lives and freedom for the sake of others.

“When, at what point, will you say no to this war? We have chosen to say, with the gift of our liberty, if necessary our lives: the violence stops here, the death stops here, the suppression of the truth stops here, this war stops here.”—Daniel Berrigan

"We, with American ideals, demand that our government shall be returned to the American people who founded it. What we are fighting for...A social justice white Gentile ruled United States." To be sure, the German accent is a non-starter. But who says it couldn't happen here?

For preserving and extending the legacy of #ThomasMerton there is no way to measure the contributions of Bro. Patrick Hart--editing scores of Merton's posthumous publications, including journals and letters. He was a joyful and generous friend to all who loved "Fr. Louis."

Always remember Hans and Sophie Scholl, brother and sister, who were executed on Feb 22 1943 for their resistance to Hitler. By speaking the truth they hoped to awaken the conscience of Germany, inspire a moral uprising, or at least shatter the unanimity of consent.
75 years ago today Sophie and Hans Scholl, siblings, students, members of the White Rose, were beheaded for distributing anti-Nazi leaflets. Armed with nothing but a mimeograph machine, courage, and the uncorrupted idealism of youth, they challenged the edifice of tyranny.
