Remembering the time Nero gave a speech and said “When we watch a child grow, we see the splendor that radiates from each human soul,” and all the Christians in Rome were like, “We’ve never had such a pro-life Emperor!”
See my comments below, wherein I confess my role in originating this quote and try to explain what it meant. (Thanks to @JamesMartinSJ for inviting this reflection) americamagazine.org/content/…
Every morning the master would visit his vault, where the keeper of his gold would greet him with the same joke: “You’re still rich as Midas!” With that he was ready to begin the day. #TolstoysTalesofTeump
While playing with matches in the woods the master destroyed a nearby village. When assessed for damages, he first said it was a “perfect fire.” Then, if not perfect, still not a crime. Then, maybe a crime, “But I’m old. Should not God decide my fate?” #TolstoysTalesofTrump
Another great showing of “Revolution of the Heart.” Looking forward to seeing it again on PBS on March 6. Thank you @JourneyFilms and #DorothyDayGeorgetown
I see Dorothy as someone who walks ahead and is beckoning us...if there is going to be a church in the future, it will be because we are following the witness of Dorothy and the faith she calls us to —@RobertEllsberg@JourneyFilms#DorothyDayGeorgetown
Went to the crypt of the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where in Dec 1932 #DorothyDay prayed to find her vocation-/so naturally who should I find there in prayer but her granddaughter Martha Hennessy.
When I’m interviewing new hires, I always find it is smart to determine if Adolf Hitler is among the top 3 people from history they would invite to dinner. #RedFlagwashingtonpost.com/sports/20…
The master was not concerned that members of his household staff were talking about book deals. “Nobody reads books anymore,” he said. “The future is telegrams!” #TolstoysTalesofTrump
2020 Illumination Awards are in: Three Gold Medals for @OrbisBooks: in Spirituality for my book, “A Living Gospel”: Catholic interest for Gerald O’Connell, “The Election of Pope Francis”; Theology for Roger Haight, “Faith and Evolution.” illuminationawards.com/15/20…
Context: asked what Dorothy would think of Trump, I reflected on how she embodied the beatitudes: the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the peacemakers ... in contrast to the anti-beatitudes of our time: blessed are the great and powerful, the stock market, the tough, etc.
Wonderful turnout for #DorothyDayGeorgetown: 600 people to see the new documentary, “Revolution of the Heart.” But best of all was to see my sister @MaryEllsberg in the audience.
So moved by the life of Dorothy Day and hearing my brother @RobertEllsberg talk about the years he spent with her and the Catholic Worker. #DorothyDay
In studying the text of the master’s letter to the Ukrainian Minister, the Crown Prosecutor was particularly intrigued by an inscrutable line, evidently written in code: “Just to be clear, I am not asking for any idquay ropay oquay. “ #TolstoysTalesofTrump
“I’ve been trying to live my life so that in the hour of my death I would rather feel joy than fear.” He volunteered to go to Auschwitz — and warned the world about the Nazi death machine washingtonpost.com/history/2…
