The master’s samovar went unused. He had long since spurned all stimulants save for the “crystal clear” waters from his own pond. He brought flasks of this elixir whenever he dined out or was called upon to offer a toast. He called it his “liquid courage,” #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Niranjanaben Kalarthi opened a school for Tribal girls at Swaraj Ashram in Bardoli, center of a famous satyagraha campaign in 1930. The girls do all the work, cooking, cleaning. They demonstrated how to spin cotton thread in the Gandhian style and greeted us with songs.

At the Salt Satyagraha Memorial in Dandi, where Gandhi marched to the sea and defied the British monopoly on salt. He and 80 satyagrahis marched 241 k—an incredible act of political theater that spelled the inevitable defeat of the British Empire.

My friend Anand, who was born on Gandhi’s ashram, identifies the names of those he recognizes—almost all of them—among the 80 salt marchers.

Got to meet Dr Uma Gadekar, daughter of the great Gandhian apostle Narayan Desai—whose own father, Mahadev, was Gandhi’s faithful secretary, and who died in prison in the mahatma’s arms.

His servants knew better than to disturb the master when he was sitting on his “lucky chair.” It was there that he had conceived many of his best business schemes. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Extraordinary to think of how many theologians in the past paid a high price for believing and saying this.

I had the thrilling experience of attending the launch of the Indian edition of my book (with a new title): “Lead, Kindly Light: Gandhi on Christianity,” in Surat, Gujarat, along with the Gujarati ed of Jim Douglass’ “Gandhi and the Unspeakable.” @OrbisBooks

Our Lady of Charity of Cobre—Patroness of Cuba. According to legend, she was discovered floating in the waves during a storm at sea by two Indians and an African slave, whose tiny boat was in danger of foundering. In answer to their prayers the storm immediately passed
When statues float...and they survive...I think we call it popular Catholicism and its alive and well with ancient provenance en las Americas. Hmmm eg Nuestra Señora de Caridad del Cobre!

One time the master spent a fortune on a piece of barren fen land after a fortune teller told him it contained a “pearl of great price.” When all his efforts to discover it proved fruitless he said he would build a lovely dacha there for his wife’s parents. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

From just three months ago. Rest in power, Honorable Elijah Cummings.
Fun Bible facts: Elijah was not a king but a prophet who confronted King Ahab (who "did more that was wrong in the eyes of the Lord than all his predecessors") and his wife Jezebel when they worshiped Baal. Lesson: Don't mess with Elijah.

They walk among us. Introducing the new and improved line of Real Americans.
The Never Trumper Republicans, though on respirators with not many left, are in certain ways worse and more dangerous for our Country than the Do Nothing Democrats. Watch out for them, they are human scum!
