The master bade his footman to don a disguise and linger about the marketplace that he might learn what the merchants were saying about him. “Mind you to remain inconspicuous!” he warned. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

“As you exit this sacred spot pledge yourselves to be a kind of sacrament—vibrant symbols that speak to the fears of a broken world. Vow not only to joy with all whose laughter is richly human but to weep with all whose pain parallels your own.”—Walter Burghardt SJ (d 2/26/2008)

In exchange for a penny a naked beggar gave the master his small begging bowl. Immediately the bowl began to grow, becoming so heavy that he could barely lift it. “It will always exceed your desire,” the beggar explained. “It will never be filled.” #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Discovering that several witnesses to his “perfect conversation” with the Presiding Judge were still unaccounted for, the master upbraided his henchmen. “I should replace the lot of you,” he said. “Do I literally have to do everything myself?” #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Thank you. Not everyone appreciated Tolstoy’s decision to forego writing epic novels in favor of short moral tales. Likewise, I am sure there are those who feel he is wasting his genius on tweets. But he feels this is a medium suited to our times. Hence: #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Perils of thinking outside the box: Exhibit A, Giordano Bruno, d Feb 17 1600.
Giordano Bruno was one of the first humans to intuit and thus consciously occupy the universe in its full immensity. Thus he seemed to his contemporaries to be like an alien from a different world. And so they killed him. Charged with heresy, burned in Rome on Feb 17 1600.

For all the jurors who had voted to acquit him the master planned a sumptuous feast: Meat patties, mac-n-cheese and baby beets. (“And for myself, mind you, an extra scoop of ice cream.”) As for those who voted to convict, he planned a special surprise. #TolstoysTalesofTrump
