Here is a story to recall on this 100th anniversary of Armistice day. In 1917 Ben Salmon applied for conscientious objector status on the basis of his Catholic faith. Neither the US gov nor the Church recognized the right of Catholic COs. He was arrested in Jan 1918. 1/8
Ben Salmon’s daughter, Maryknoll Sister Elizabeth Salmon, who served in Nicaragua and attended the beatification of WWII martyr Franz Jagerstatter, is 95. maryknollsisters.org/2015/04…
Whenever I read @ericmetaxas I try to imagine an alternative universe where William Wilberforce tried to separate children from their parents and Bonhoeffer joined with the Proud Boys and Roger Stone to defend Christian civilization. But I can’t.
.@emmaogreen: "Some people have argued that the reputation of Christianity has been damaged by evangelicals’ wide support of President Trump."
.@ericmetaxas: " I think that’s preposterous!"

There is nothing so inspiring as to see people rushing toward an impossible fight, armed only with the truth, giving every ounce of strength and devotion to a cause that is apparently hopeless. The Senate trial did not end as justice would have dictated.
But what @RepRaskin and his colleagues did will not be forgotten. History shows that the truth often wins by means of apparent defeat. I have no doubt that their arguments and efforts planted seeds that will ultimately rise from the ashes of this miserable era.
When he was a child his mother had employed a young serf to receive all the punishments he earned. From that experience he had learned that when you’re a master there are no consequences. They let you do it. You can do anything. #TolstoysTalesofTrump
Maryknoll Sister Madeline Dorsey died today 2/13. She was 101, a Maryknoll Sr for 84 years. In 1950s she helped found the MK hospital, Queen of the World, the first interracial hospital in Kansas City. She marched in Selma on Bloody Sunday in 1965.
Serving in El Salvador in the bloody years of 1976-81 she was called to identify the bodies of her sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clarke. Later she “crossed the line” protesting the School of the Americas. “When you walk with people you see the truth through their eyes.” ¡Presente!
Bd James Miller, a Christian Bro from WI who worked with indigenous people in Guatemala, was killed by a death squad on Feb 13 1982. “I pray to God for the grace to serve him faithfully by my presence among the poor and oppressed of Guatemala. I place my life in His Providence.”
Agree with my Dad—evidence that defense counsel lied in statements about Trump’s concern for welfare of Pence and new McCarthy revelations are evidence of depraved indifference that completely raise the bar on what is already known. #CallWitnesses
Anyone who has listened to Trump’s rallies knows that when, in his Jan 6 speech, he said “everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to *peacefully* and patriotically make your voices heard,” that was said with a wink.
