Feast of St Monica, mother of St Augustine. For years she wept over his sins and prayed that he might share her faith. She lived to see his baptism, only to die soon after. He describes a conversation in her last days in which they imagined the happiness of the saints in heaven.

Raimon Panikkar, priest, theologian, pioneer of interreligious understanding died 10 yrs ago on Aug 26 2010. The son of a Catholic mother from Spain and a Hindu father from India, he found the path to reconciling his religious identity when he traveled to India in 1954.

Simone Weil, a brilliant French philosopher, died in an English hospital on August 24 1943. Raised in a secular Jewish home, she was driven by an exacting conscience to share in the experience of working people. She took a year’s leave from her teaching job to work in factories.

The Democrats took the word GOD out of the Pledge of Allegiance at the Democrat National Convention. At first I thought they made a mistake, but it wasn’t. It was done on purpose. Remember Evangelical Christians, and ALL, this is where they are coming from-it’s done. Vote Nov 3!
