Many years ago the master had dreamed of becoming a real little boy. All he had to do was be “brave, truthful, and unselfish.” For a while a little cricket had served as his conscience, but it made an unpleasant noise so he squashed it. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

The master could always count on support from the usual retainers and sycophants. But what he longed for were kind words from his closest friends—the District Commissioner, the Sheik, Mr Kim. Instead they pretended not to know him. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Anti-fascists.
Nov 10 1943, 4 Christians—3 Catholic priests and a Lutheran minister from Lübeck were beheaded by the Nazis on charges of defeatism and favoring the enemy. At a time when ecumenical dialogue was unusual the 4 had formed a deep friendship on their shared opposition to the Nazis.

The words “You’re fired!” had a becalming effect on the master. Under normal circumstances his stress could be discharged by firing a housekeeper or two. But now the rising pressure of his mood could only be relieved by a greater sacrifice. Who would it be? #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Hmm. I’m not sure why you say that. It is supposed to be free and doesn’t appear to solicit an America sub. Right @ColleenDulle ?

For losers and suckers the master had nothing but contempt. But to all his fellow victims of treachery and unfairness he extended the warm hand of friendship and respect. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Now that the McCarrick Report is done it would be interesting to investigate how many people knew and when that the former Apostolic Nuncio was barking mad.

Anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogrom. The way a steady diet of lies can and cruelty can corrode our capacity for solidarity. My reflections from last year. 👇
Nov 9 1938, the Kristallnacht pogrom, when Nazi storm troopers across Germany unleashed a coordinated assault on the Jewish community. 179 synagogues burned; 7500 Jewish-owned shops destroyed; 20k Jews taken into “protective custody.” Protests in Germany and abroad were muted.

The master’s family asked why *they* had to leave the manor just because he had to go into exile. He advised them not to give up hope. According to his lawyer there were still a number of barely legal avenues to pursue. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Praying for Martha and her fellow peacemakers.
Today is the birthday of Dorothy Day, founder of the Catholic Worker Movement. Her work continues today with her granddaughter, Martha Hennessy, who will be sentenced this week for entering and vandalizing a naval base in protest of nuclear weapons. (1/2)

The master had read the legend of the 47 Ronin—leaderless Samurai in Japan—who, after the humiliation of their lord, vowed to avenge him or commit ritual suicide. “You’d do that for me, wouldn’t you?” he asked his manservant Mikhail. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

He’s the real thing!
Good morning Georgia! I’m Raphael Warnock. I grew up in public housing in Savannah and went to college at @Morehouse where I was the first in my family to graduate college. And I’m running to be Georgia’s next U.S. Senator.

That is what my English teacher called it, when he said I would never amount to anything because of my handwriting. And that is why I invented the typewriter.
