June 5 1971: Death of André Trocme, pastor of the Protestant village of Le Chambon in France. He and his wife Magda organized their village to offer a safe haven for Jews and others fleeing persecution during Nazi occupation. Hundreds took part in this conspiracy of goodness.

Despite great risks, they rescued over 2500 Jews. Trocme was himself detained and later went into hiding. Still the sheltering continued. For Jews This small village was perhaps the safest place in all occupied Europe.
