Feast of Saint Cædmon c. CE 657–684 who is the first English (Northumbrian) poet whose name is known. A deeply committed Celtic-monk who cared for the animals at the double monastery of Streonæshalch (Whitby Abbey), then under the leadership of Saint Hilda.

An unlettered cowherd, he received the miraculous gift of translating scripture into verse in a dream. Afterward, he became a monk.
