Dr Joel Filartiga, Paraguayan doctor, artist, and human rights crusader, died July 5. In 1976, to silence his opposition to the dictator Stroessner, the police chief kidnapped his 17 yr old son and tortured him to death. Filartiga waged a relentless campaign for justice.
