Fr. Lawrence Jenco, a Service priest and director of Catholic Relief Services in Lebanon was taken hostage in Beirut and held for 564 days in captivity--days of unrelenting boredom interspersed with bursts of terror. Died July 19, 1996.

The night before his release he prayed for the strength to forgive his captors: "God, give me a new heart and a new spirit. You have asked me to love unconditionally. May I forgive as you have asked me to forgive,. Then you will be my God and I will be your son." #Forgiveness

Wasn’t he a Servite priest? Did autocorrect get you? I heard him give a talk at Christ the King parish and Catholic Campus Ministry in Missoula, MT years ago about his ordeal. Powerful.
