This is how it’s supposed to work. JFK defeats Lodge for US Senator from MA in 1952 & then defeats Lodge again as the GOP VP candidate in 1960. Yet JFK appoints him ambassador to this critically important post. And Lodge accepts. This is what ‘America first’ should actually mean.

It as it turned out, appointing Lodge ambassador to South Vietnam turned out to be one the most fateful errors in American history. JFK did not live to see his mistake.

Exactly! "Getting along" without critical exploration of consequences is not a better model of America first! The whole notion of USA first IS part of problem!
