Just finished, and many thanks @RobertEllsberg for your recommendation. So much to appreciate about this book that I look forward to reading it again. (This was an early ed. copy from the Seattle library, so will look for one with commentary next time.)

Great! Silone actually published a revised edition of "Bread and Wine." He confessed to telling the same story in all his books. "The Seed Beneath the Snow" tells the further story of his priest-revolutionary, Pietro Spina.
