Feast of St. Marianne Cope (d 1918), a Franciscan sister who volunteered to serve the lepers in Hawaii. On Molokai, where the most serious cases were confined, her first task was to care for St. Damien de Veuster, who had succumbed to the disease during his long years of work.

This is my favourite picture of St. Marianne's work. The children are dressed beautifully and obviously loved. With her sisters St. Marianne helped turn suffering into joy.
