Almost 40 years ago John F. Kavanaugh SJ warned about the commodification of the human person, the systemic idolatry reducing people to producers & consumers. He called the Gospel the "most counter-cultural & most significantly revolutionary document one could ever hope to find."
Fox's Brit Hume says it’s an “entirely reasonable viewpoint” to expect that grandparents would be willing to die to protect the economy mediamatters.org/brit-hume/f…

Kavanaugh's book (with @OrbisBooks), _Following Christ in a Consumer Society_, is illuminating as it is prophetic. It begins with a prescient take on the "empty interior" produced by consumerism and commodification, citing Donald Trump as an example.

Thank you for remembering John Kavanaugh SJ. His prophetic work “Following Christ in a Consumer Society” first published 1981 @OrbisBooks. I worked with him on new editions in 1991 and 2006. He died 2012. How I wish he could write a new ed for these times.
