Been thinking of this: 4 years ago it was clear there were 2 incompatible paths, the Way of Pope Francis and the Way of Trump (not saying Dem vs GOP). And large % of Catholics and bishops said/say “We go with Trump.” Still? What do we do with that? (“Give us Barabbas!”)
Wouldn’t it be such a great thing if a bishop spoke up each and every time Trump uttered an injustice, a lie, a racist remark, a raising up of a former nuncio who called for Francis’ resignation, or held up Taylor Marshall as part of his re-election campaign...think about it.

Prelates who remain behind Trump hide behind one issue: abortion. The unborn are part of our faith journey, but to fully embrace the one outside the tomb, the full human journey must be weighed. Sexual politics doesn't cut it. Trump contradicts virtually all the church believes.

Some only say 'respect the presidency' when they have the president they want. Same with the Pope. Same people.

I would have hoped that after seven years, Pope Francis appointments would have changed the US hierarchy to the point creating a better dynamic. Much like a Trump presidency, I could have never predicted the extent to which the US bishops and church have just ignored him.
