I remember when theologians like Leonardo Boff, Jacques Dupuis, Jon Sobrino, Margaret Farley, Elizabeth Johnson, were reproved, silenced, or harassed for supposedly “scandalizing the faithful.” But apparently if you are an Archbishop they let you do it. You can do anything.

You are so right. The Theologians of the Theology of Liberation were castigated for standing with the Gospel and being brave enough to stand for the truth.

Bishops outrank other Catholics, and professors are nobody special. Not my belief, but what i have seen. Also conservatives have more influence.

It does seem very odd that Pope Francis has not publicly rebuked Viganò. Refraining from quashing dissent is one thing, but this is allowing many people to be misled. It could appear the Pope is fine with it.
