I was born on the feast of St Lucy, commonly depicted with her eyeballs on a platter. (Don鈥檛 ask.) A happier tradition in Scandinavia where girls wearing a crown of candles serve coffee and cake. I failed to convince my daughters this would be safe and fun to practice at home.

The Lutheran church in my hood went Black with these Swedish Lutherans encouraging the youngsters so much the out there crown of candles on Lucy鈥檚 Afro head and decided against martyrdom for Lucy. My first experience of virtual liturgy
