The last day of the year is the FD of St Melania (the Younger, not to be confused with her grandmother St Melania the Elder or any other Melania). One of the great women of the early church, she persuaded her husband to free 8000 slaves and give all their property to the poor.

St. Melania the Younger ( b. 383) was the paternal granddaughter of St. Melania the Elder. After the deaths of their children she established convents and charities in Sicily and Africa. Her diaconal status is undisputed. Feast Day December 31.
