Christianity can produce a very healthy kind of extremist. Lanza del Vasto, the ecologist, communitarian, and follower of Jesus, who founded the "other" L'Arche. Would have been a fascinating guy to meet!

Lanza del Vasto, servant of peace, died 40 years ago today. With the appearance of a biblical prophet, or his forerunner Noah, he set out to live by values that might preserve the world from the deluge of of violence, ugliness, and efficiency.

I’m an admirer of his, and would like to have met him. But there’s a fair amount of _Pèlerinage aux sources_, that book of his about his travels in South Asia and his meeting with Gandhi, that I find troubling.
