Maryknoll Sister Madeline Dorsey died today 2/13. She was 101, a Maryknoll Sr for 84 years. In 1950s she helped found the MK hospital, Queen of the World, the first interracial hospital in Kansas City. She marched in Selma on Bloody Sunday in 1965.

Serving in El Salvador in the bloody years of 1976-81 she was called to identify the bodies of her sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clarke. Later she “crossed the line” protesting the School of the Americas. “When you walk with people you see the truth through their eyes.” ¡Presente!

To me and all who knew and loved Maryknoll Sister Maddie Dorsey, she will remain in our hearts a hero of our lives, along with the four Churchwomen at whose gravesite she prayed and Sister Ita Ford’s brother Bill Ford who continued their for justice in El Salvador.

And she was present, kneeling, when the remains of her fellow workers, the four churchwomen martyred in El Salvador, were uncovered in that lonely spot. May Sister Madeline rest in peace.
