A sign of things to come: Last Dec the doctrinal committee of the USCCB issued a guide to evaluating hymns on basis of doctrinal content. An example of a hymn that offends Eucharistic doctrine was “All Are Welcome.”

I am admittedly fond of the "tone" of All Are Welcome, but is one of the hymns I will _not_ do as song leader in my parish. It loses the miraculous actual presence of our Eucharistic Lord, on Whom angels tremble to gaze, and flattens it out into "Welcome to our Parish Picnic."

Sad & have witnessed how "All Are Welcome" could be troublesome as a branding label for Church events. It reflected one person's thinking out loud trying to be careful & sensitive to not offend any group with a false invitation, but so dismayed & angry by follow-up discussion.

This makes me sad. It was the Gathering song we used at our wedding. Lots of different faith traditions came to witness our union. We wanted all to feel welcome and felt it laid the foundation of the home we wanted to build together—All are Welcome at our table.

Just when I thought the Church would run out of reasons to leave…

Thank you for posting that — how instructive and how sad. I will take my cues as a Catholic from @Pontifex not @USCCB
