I’m begging Catholics everywhere to stop this. She wasn’t defending purity- she was fighting a rapist who murdered her. Her purity was no where in question- rape doesn’t infringe upon one’s purity. And name this sin, it is rape.
Today we commemorate Bl. Karolina Kozka (1898-1914). She had strong faith and willingness to catechize to neighbors and children alike. She recited rosaries and was an ardent devotee to the Mother of God. She was killed by a Russian soldier as she was defending her purity.

Alas, a narrative that goes back to the “Virgin Martyrs” in Roman times. That the 4 N American churchwomen martyred in El Salvador were raped before their murder was no detriment to their *purity.” We have to rewrite these dangerous narratives.

Somewhat related, why does the collect for St. Theresa of Kolkata reference virginity? Whether she was or not has nothing to do with her sainthood: "O God, who called blessed Teresa, virgin to respond to the love of your Son thirsting on the cross with outstanding charity..."
