My dear father, #DanielEllsberg, died this morning June 16 at 1:24 a.m., four months after his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. His family surrounded him as he took his last breath. He had no pain and died peacefully at home. commondreams.org/opinion/dan…

At one point he said, if he were to have a gravestone, that he would say: "He became a part of the anti-Vietnam and anti-nuclear movement." By chance, my interview about him, for release this Father's Day weekend, was posted today. plough.com/en/topics/justice…

Last month @Plough asked to interview me about my dad for Father's Day. I am grateful for this opportunity to talk about his human qualities, his lessons, the ways he has shaped my life. "plough.com/en/topics/justice…

Proud to have published Roger’s “Jesus Symbol of God” in 1999 @OrbisBooks. When he was censured by the Vatican he told me: “Better theologians than me have been disciplined.” “…And become cardinals,” I added.

Philosopher Martin Buber died June 13 1965z “the true meaning of love one’s neighbor is not that it is a command from God which we are to fulfill, but that through it and in it we meet God.” My reflections in @GiveUsThisDayLP

Anne Frank, who was born June 12 1929, would be 94 today. The date of her death in 1945 in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp is unknown. My reflection during the pandemic on #MastersofSocialIsolation. “I want to go on living after my death.” That wish was fulfilled.
#MastersofSocialIsolation #10. In a time when Jewish children in Europe were hunted like vermin, Anne Frank did not choose her isolation. With her own and another family she was confined for 2 years in a “secret annex” in Amsterdam, never going out, keeping still all day.

Congratulations to Roger Haight, SJ, winner of the Catholic Theological Society of America's John Courtney Murray award, their highest honor, a sort of lifetime achievement award. Roger is a fellow Jesuit, former professor of mine at @bcstm and current housemate!
In bestowing the John Courtney Murray Award on Roger Haight SJ, CTSA President Frank Clooney noted of his most famous work on Christology that “it attracted attention all over the world, including the Vatican.” Proud to have published that book and seven others. @OrbisBooks

He noted last night that he imagines he will be the last winner of the John Courtney Murray award who actually studied under Murray! Very moving when many of his former students joined him on stage.
