In a high stakes game of chess, the master wagered the health of his peasants, the prosperity of the estate, and the freedom of his friends and family, knowing that if worse came to worst he could always charge fraud and demand a “do-over.” #TolstoysTalesofTrump

Concern for migrants and refugees has been one of the signature themes of Pope Francis’s papacy. @Paul_R_Elie explains why and what this means. Pope Francis Is Still Trying to Call Attention to the Migrant Crisis newyorker.com/news/daily-com… via @NewYorker
Very helpful piece by @PatrickSaintJe4. Can’t wait to see his new @OrbisBooks title in print in Feb: Crucible of Racism, in which he elaborates on how Ignatian spirituality addresses racism.
The first time the master’s manservant Mikhail was asked to dispose of a body it was very hard. But it got easier. Eventually, to keep up, he had to employ the whole household staff and they were all amazed at how easy it became. #TolstoysTalesofTrump
My reflections on a German nun who was arrested by the Gestapo after being overheard to say “Hitler is a calamity for Europe.” She became “the Angel of Auschwitz.” @GiveUsThisDayLP
If there was ever a man born with an excuse to give up, to throw in the towel on the church, to simply have it with its corruption, arbitrary decrees, worldliness and clericalism; its clear, targeted, baseless contempt for all that he held dear, it was my favorite Jesuit saint
Excellent thread! Note, Pope Francis’ book “Letters of Tribulation,” is built on letters from the SJ SGs during this time of suppression of the Society. @OrbisBooks Pignatelli also one of my favorites. How to keep hope alive when your world is in ruins.

So @CatholicPres has commented on the 2nd theft of a "Mama" icon from @CathULaw chapel.

As a @CUACanonLaw student, I say to @CatholicPres:
Speak out boldly & call these crimes what they are.
They are _hate_crimes_ and they are _desecrations_ of sacred space.
And I ask @CUABSA & other CUA students of color:
Please show me how I can best support you with action.
Gutierrez's "A Theology of Liberation" was published in 1971, 50 yr ago, launching a movement that transformed theology, but also serving as the cornerstone of @Orbisbooks. We will celebrate our 1973 ed in '23. Great piece by @MichaelLeePhD@NCRonlinebit.ly/3mk0xxP
Sensing that his mood was growing dark, the master’s spiritual advisor told him that whenever God closes one door he always opens a window. This brightened his spirits as he wondered who among his disloyal staff would get the first push. #TolstoysTalesofTrump
