One year later. For every person and nation there comes a moment to decide.
Addressing his manservant Mikhail, the master noted that there came a time in the life of every manservant when he had to ask himself how he expected and wanted history to remember him. “This is that moment,” he warned. “Capisce?” #TolstoysTalesofTrump

One year later. Still a few signatures shy of his goal.
The master intended to present a petition with 11,780 signatures attesting to his beneficence and good character. Apart from his own name all he needed was to find another 11,779 signatures. 11,778 counting his manservant Mikhail. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

One year later, the master wondered: "What if it was only ten people? What about 4? Surely the principle would still work if there was even ONE sufficiently hearty volunteer?"
Though the scientific principle was not entirely clear, the master was informed that if everyone on the estate jumped at the same time, this would erect a powerful shield of immunity. So far he had recruited 12 hearty volunteers. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

I used to think that being a Christian was about preaching the right things, believing the right things, and performing the right ways. I’ve come to see that being a Christian is more about imagining a world that is more loving and whole than the one we’re offered.

I saw this as a kid and remembered that he says tinned French mushrooms are better than the inexpensive kind. I thought I had learned one of the great secrets of a sophisticated life only to discover later that it was rubbish. (Ditto for martinis shaken not stirred.)

Yes, when he’s making an omelette, the whole movie is a vision of a lost London with a Working class James Bond

The part about how a nail can help you resist brainwashing was the most useful lesson.

One year later. The secret is a coating of Teflon.
The master didn’t trust a man who washed his hands too frequently. He felt it was almost a confession of weakness or guilt. “Why should I wash my hands if I haven’t done anything wrong?” he asked. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

One year later. The membership in this church continued to grow.
Now that he was registered as a minister in his own religion, the Holy Church of Greatness, the master could bestow pardons on his friends and anathemas on his enemies. Best of all, he could declare his house a sanctuary beyond the reach of the law. #TolstoysTalesofTrump

💯❗️Just this week. Could have sworn I dropped that class! And then this anxiety: will this failure to pass this class nullify my subsequent degrees and achievements?
John Main OSB died 12/30 1982. Drawing on the wisdom of the desert fathers he revived the practice of Christian meditation using mantras like “maranatha”—Come, Lord Jesus. “To meditate means to live out of the center of our being.”

A politically-charged November speech by Abp Jose Gomez shocked Black Catholics and those involved in social justice movements (and also contradicted Pope Francis). Melinda Ribnek responds to this scandal, and reminds us where our true hope is found. wherepeteris.com/scandal-has…

From what I read there was no misrepresentation

@MRibnek cited examples in which Pope Francis’ words in Fratelli Tutti were misrepresented.

“Don’t Look Up” is a modern “Dr Strangelove” for the age of climate change. Like the original it doesn’t comfort us with a reassuring ending.
Whom do you trust - the film critics or the climate scientists? "It’s funny and terrifying because it conveys a certain cold truth that climate scientists and others who understand the full depth of the climate emergency are living every day." theguardian.com/commentisfre…
