Haunted by the passion and death of Elijah McClain two years ago. Today a grand jury indicted three police officers and two paramedics on 32 counts of assault, manslaughter, and negligent homicide.
On Aug 24 2019, Elijah McClain, 23, was detained and assaulted by Aurora, CO police while walking home with a bottle of ice tea. Within minutes he was dead. The official report reads like an account of a lynching. bit.ly/37DSJQb (art: Wm. McNichols).

Thrilled that "Ruth Burrows: Essential Writings" appears in Rowan Williams' list. "I was delighted when a few years ago, this anthology of her writings appeared. And to my mind, she (RB) is really one of the greatest teachers of prayer in our own time." @RobertEllsberg
"One of the earliest references to potatoes in European literature can be found in Teresa’s letters. Her brother sends her potatoes from the New World" ICYMI Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury, tells us all about St Teresa of Avila: fivebooks.com/best-books/st-…

Watching a movie based on a Chekhov story and someone just casually got out a gun for tomorrow’s hunt … it’ll probably be fine

I once told my daughter that Chekhov said if a gun appears in the first act it will go off in the third act. “By itself?” she asked.

It’s the setup for a new Alanis Morissette song: “It’s like when you waited your whole damn just life to meet the pope, and he looks at your name tag and is like, ‘meh, nope.’ And isn’t it c’est la vie? Don’t you think? A little too c’est la vie.”

I met the pope yesterday in the Vatican, briefly. I showed him this tweet and we both had a good laugh. “I thought he said he was Benedict Cumberbatch yet his name tag said roddreher. Asi es la vida, no?”
