Sir Geoffrey Norman MP was a satirical character who specialised in political-speak and excelled at ‘denying anything and everything’. He was also arrogant, entitled and believed that ‘the rules’ didn’t apply to him. Oh, how life imitates art #PMQs #downingstreetparty

A year after @amnesty launched it’s #EyesOnFrance campaign, @amnestyfrance popped down to the Élysée Palace to deliver a 120,000-strong petition on the right to protest We’re calling on @EmmanuelMacron to change in the law in France & to protect the right to peaceful protest.
Peacefully protesting is a right protected by human rights Conventions. But French authorities ignore this & weaponize the law to crackdown on protesters. Call on President @EmmanuelMacron to protect people’s right to peacefully protest amn.st/6012GIojC 📢 #EyesOnFrance

A story about the only time I've seen Noam Chomsky lost for words He wasn't stumped by a great linguistics professor or a wily political philosopher, but by a traffic warden outside University College London @ucl (not LSE!)
1/. Happy 93rd birthday Noam Chomsky! Years ago, I was working for @libertyhq & Chomsky was keynote speaker at our conference I volunteered to pick him up from an event at the LSE & drive him across town to our event I parked outside - on a yellow line - & ran in to get him.

3/ When we got outside, a traffic warden was writing me a ticket I tried to explain but the traffic warden was having none of it "But this is Noam Chomsky! One of world’s greatest thinkers” I said "If he's so clever,” he replied. “How come he’s parked on a double yellow line?"

4/. POSTSCRIPT: Noam Chomsky was sympathetic about my parking ticket, especially as he had received a fine himself that morning He’d travelled down from Oxford with his old friend, Eric Hobsbawn “Eric told me we didn’t need tickets as they never check them” They got caught

5/. “What would a Martian observer make of our dedicated march towards destruction?” asks Chomsky I compare him to that Martian: possessed of a superior intellect & insight, travelling amongst us explaining things with an other-worldly patience & sagacity newint.org/features/web-excl…

6/ After that first encounter, I stayed in touch with Chomsky & I try to see him whenever he's in London In 2010, I sent him my piece about "his final intn'l speaking tour” He wrote back thanking me for the article & listing his future intn'l tour dates! afrik-news.com/article17159.…

3/. #BREAKING: The hearing of the appeal against acquittal of 3 women human rights activists in #Poland who face charges for distributing posters of the Virgin Mary with a rainbow halo has been postponed...again The prosecution smacks of state-sponsored homophobia & harassment.

Parliament should be in uproar. The press should be in uproar. Yet you could hear a pin drop. There have been roughly as many stories in the UK press about Nestlé’s Quality Street chocolates as there have been about this massive attack on democratic rights.

Last week, the govt slipped a series of terrifying amendments into the #PolicingBill The already amounted to the most oppressive legislation by a UK govt since the end of the WWII The new amendments put us well along path to dictatorship. @GeorgeMonbiot theguardian.com/commentisfre…

1/7 Ref Mogg's comments at the IEA event regarding the Downing St party, it's important to put this in context: 1. THE IEA, one of the most corrupt, FOREIGN FUNDED, Right Wing LIBERTARIAN organisation in the UK want Johnson replaced with a more hard line Brexiter from their camp

I was not at the No. 10 Christmas party.
ok, how are we going to smoke out which lobby hacks were at the No. 10 Christmas party? Maybe all political journalists who weren't there should tweet "I was not at the No. 10 Christmas party" - after all, lying would only make it worse! - and we can see who is left standing

Watch this clip to the very end. It will astonish you.
Reality Winner was prosecuted under the Espionage Act. Written in 1917, the Justice Department began using the Espionage Act against people who considered themselves to be whistleblowers, but the government’s handling of the law has been inconsistent. cbsn.ws/3GobYfy
