There has to be a name for the logical fallacy that just because someone is doing one thing it implies they are not doing another thing. Also often comes in the form “why are you talking about X when Y is so much more important?”

The alternative to centralised verification basically comes down to decentralized reputation. Which, if you know much about the complexities of centralised reputation systems, you’d know is effectively impossible

Very bizarre to me that the most common argument against vaccines I see on here still seems to be “the vaccine isn’t 100% effective in stopping COVID therefore it is useless”

“You have cancer so we’re going to do chemotherapy.” “That’ll get rid of the cancer right?” “There’s a chance it won’t.” “Lol chemotherapy is a joke”

There are a lot of concerns to be had around how the pandemic has been handled and is being handled, but failing to grasp the concept that 90% effectiveness can have a mammoth impact while still not being 100% effective takes away from your credibility somewhat.

I feel a lot of people don’t appreciate the value of being able to solve a problem with as little technology as possible.

I’ve been obsessed with tech as long as I can remember. I was borrowing programming books from the library in primary school. Building big, complex solutions is fun! But the elegance and simplicity of a minimum tech solution is hard to beat.

While the rest of the world moves towards decriminalisation because time and again research has shown that cannabis is far less harmful than alcohol and decrim reduces harm, this letter opposes it because… “marijuana bad”. Zero evidence, zero justification for this.
Together with colleagues, I have written to the Mayor urging him to drop his scheme to effectively decriminalise cannabis in parts of London. Khan's policing trial would send the wrong message to young Londoners. Cannabis is not harmless, and using it is not a victimless crime.

Question: other than tweeting, how many people have actually done anything beyond “care”? I care, but I don’t think I’ve done anything about it. Gross statement, but caring doesn’t change anything. Action does. And if you don’t care enough to take action, what’s the difference?

In his time, 72% of Americans had an unfavourable view of MLK. He was denounced as an extremist and a traitor, and the civil rights movement was viewed by a majority of Americans as going too far, being counterproductive and racist towards whites. time.com/5099513/martin-luth…

From what I can gather, the Metaverse is a general name for everything virtual. Trying to get any more specific seems to rule out someone's definition.

You know how during the blocksize wars, corporations and website owners thought they knew what was best for bitcoin even though the expert core devs disagreed? Turns out the core devs were right, of course. Now apply this lesson to medicine or any other highly complex field.
