Ever wondered why Oxford's cycle paths are so dangerous, even when new? Councillor @_Liam_Walker_ thinks cyclists "constantly wanking off the Dutch" should "fuck off over there then". He is... Cabinet Member for Highways Delivery & Operations in Oxfordshire.

For example, this cycle path from @_liam_walker_ is so dangerous that the police themselves advise cyclists not to use it, because cars drive through it so dangerously.
Stopped by @TVP_Oxford on warneford lane advised not safe #cycling in #oxford with children at rush hour. They were kind but missed the point. #buildbackbetter @tonybrett @bigdamo @OxLivSts @DannyYee @RosalindRogers @_eleanorvogel

Why was that cycle path made so dangerous? To add some car parking space. Councillr聽@_Liam_Walker_聽 thinks cyclists "constantly wanking off the Dutch" should "fuck off over there then". He is Cabinet Member for Highways Delivery & Operations in Oxfordshire
This "cycle path" created by @oxfordshireCC is literally the most dangerous part of the road. It should have cross-hatching and "Danger! No Cycling!" written on it. If you really want those giant grass verges then the cars can never overtake bikes. (That's fine by me as a driver)

A man in his 30s has been killed after "colliding with a metal pole while cycling on Old Road in Oxford" Why? Because @OxfordshireCC @OxfordCity put metal poles *in the middle* of Oxford's cycle paths. oxfordmail.co.uk/news/194116鈥 Here is the location:

That dangerous @OxfordshireCC @OxfordCity cycle path where he was killed is 鈭250 yards from this Oxford cycle path, which is so dangerous that the police pulled a mother over to warn her not to cycle there because drivers get so aggressive about passing..

I say "cycle path". These are lines painted on the road by @OxfordshireCC @OxfordCity. Not only is "paint not infrastructure", but these lines are painted on the road in a manner that actively makes cycling *more* dangerous. It defies belief.
Oxford's council will "maintain cycle paths" for Covid. Sadly these paths are designed to kill. Here's one forcing cyclists into the dangerous car door zone, on a needlessly narrow road. They'd rather have car parking and grass verges than protect lives. news.oxfordshire.gov.uk/oxfo鈥

Yeah that鈥檚 dreadful. Whoever designed that should be very ashamed.
Very sad, but he should have been looking where he was going. It could have been a small child standing there, or a frail elderly person.

quiet linda, someone died... the issue is the pole that was actually in the circle path... not someone you're making up

In Leeds and Bradford, the poles are in the middle of the pavements. Always thought the idea was stupid. Problems for blind people. Pram pushers have to navigate into the road in places. Seriously f*cked up planning.

Or rather someone painted a line on the pavement and called it a cycle path. Many other examples of this in Oxford. Now there has been political change at OxonCC perhaps they can build genuine cycling infrastructure like they have in Copenhagen.
Often tram rails next to the pole which catch your bike wheels and steer you into it as well
Well done @bengoldacre on calling out planning idiocy like this. So many 'cycle paths' in the UK are just a bit of paint demarcating stretches that are filled with potholes and street furniture. Dangerous to ride, dangerous too when car drivers are enraged by us not riding them.
This sort of predictable injury/ preventable death is beyond tragic.
