Here are the key steps to getting an initiative on the ballot. The speaker emphasized again and again, that the best route for success is to get elected officials' route. They have connections & domain knowledge to help you navigate each step.

Step 1 - Idea * Improve it by talking to everyone, including the opposition. ⚠️ Caveat, don't waste your time on folks who will ALWAYS oppose you, it gives them a heads up on what you're working on * Officials help this step by avoiding legal pitfalls (see @BoulderBedrooms )

Step 2 & 3 - Others + Stakeholders * Find the talkers: other organizations * Train your volunteers, and keep training them. They help counter the spread of misinformation, but only if it's an iterative process. * Good title: plain language, could be the only thing voters read

Side note on iterative volunteer training: If the wrong message is out there, volunteers are who counteract it. Ask them what ?s they didn't know how to answer when out in the field. Create a cheat sheet for next time. Repeat.

Most of your effort happens before your initiative is even on the ballot. Rarely can a campaign be saved after it ends up on the ballot.

Once you're on the ballot, make sure the folks you've lined up actually vote. An affordable GOTV campaign: * $25 - $50 for local voter records * Skip tv (hahaha) & go for google search & social media
