A truly dystopian part of...all this...are the chipper email reminders from schools and workplaces, reminding people to tend to their mental health while doing absolutely nothing to make that possible.

The strategy of "rely on people to believe the science and weigh risks and benefits for societal benefit" has failed repeatedly in the US. I don't know what's best to try next, but we should stop believing in that strategy. Urgently.
Replying to @latimes
Roughly 20% to 40% of the L.A. County’s front-line workers who were offered the vaccine declined to get the shot. So many in Riverside County refused the vaccine — an estimated 50% — that officials met to strategize how best to distribute the unused doses latimes.com/california/story…

🚨In my final piece of 2020, I look ahead to Pandemic Year 2--the vaccination rollout, how the virus will react, the lingering societal scars, and the larger lessons we must learn (but risk forgetting) from this horrendous year. 1/ theatlantic.com/health/archi…

I want to give a shout out to the 40% who stayed home. Many are making painful sacrifices, but they know it's right. I appreciate you all. You are saving lives. It's worth it.
Just in. Air travel just broke a new record of the pandemic. 1,191,123 people passed through TSA checkpoints on Wednesday, more than the previous record set the Sunday after Thanksgiving. This is the sixth straight day of TSA figures near or greater than one million.

I've lately seen folks on here say they've felt guilty for getting books (mine and other authors) from the library, or people insinuating some authors might be against libraries. This is nonsense, and here's a thread on how using your local library supports authors.

1 out of every 20 people in USA has been infected with COVID & it’s the # 1 cause of death at this time. That this doesn’t bring everything to an immediate standstill with there being no greater priority than stopping the spread is an incredibly damning statement about the USA.

A thing I will never forget, even once people are vaccinated and this is something we are able to say is behind us, is the casual thoughtlessness, selfishness and callousness so many have exhibited.
