This is a good write-up. Burnout is real. Nobody can maintain a project *forever*. Writing software for the community is an act of generosity, but equally so is giving up control of that software.
πŸ”₯ What happens when you're burned out from working on an open source project? Sometimes getting help is as easy as asking for it. In this article, I dig into my experience with maintainer burn out and transition. mattlayman.com/blog/2018/req…

HTML accessibility folks: if you have links on a page for "previous" and "next" (and they're on every page). Is it more a11y-friendly to use a <button> element or an <a> element for them? They kinda look like buttons visually.

My daughter found my wallet. Pulled out all of the dollar bills. Found the shoe rack. Placed each bill inside various shoes throughout the shoe rack.

Whelp my Gmail Android app is blue now. Sometimes I wonder how much money must have gone into a decision like "make the Gmail app blue-ish instead of red-ish".

One of the hardest and also most useful approaches to improving the open source ecosystem is to commit to using tools that you know won't do exactly what you want, in order to incentivize yourself to contribute and improve them.

Yesterday I won an award from @theAGU. πŸ₯³ It feels great to receive this recognition and see all the message of support from colleagues on and off Twitter. I have some complicated feelings about it, which I will share in this thread... /1
Congrats to @rabernat 2021 AGU Falkenberg Award winner. Ryan has inspired many of us to embrace - open, inclusive, community-based science. I'm glad to see someone rewarded for their efforts to build communities. @pangeo_data eos.org/agu-news/congratulat…

A great thread on the OpenStack approach to "open". It's about much more than just licenses. Inclusion, transparency, and open governance are hugely important as well.
Open Source Open Design Open Development Open Community These are "the four opens" - and I'd like everyone to remember that they are distinct. Like milk and cheese. Similar, but different. I'll explain. ... a short 🧡 on #OpenSource ...
