Great stuff @RebeccaJoffrey My PoV:In the post-industrial age most of us have become 'emotional laborers'. "The point is that while you may also be doing physical labor & mental labor, you are crucially being hired & monitored for your capacity to manage & produce a feeling."
Emotional labor [refers] to the work of managing one’s own emotions that was required by certain professions. e.g., Flight attendants, who are expected to smile and be friendly even in stressful situations theatlantic.com/family/archi…

When trying to cook something, and it doesn't work out, I tend to eat it anyway. Because, sunk cost

Bigger pies, more pies, more ovens, and a healthy ecosystem of bakeries. Abundance mindset for an abundant world. Fewer zero sum games exist in the information age.
What if instead of using a negotiation to divide the pie, the parties instead focused on creating the biggest possible pie? hbr.org/2021/11/rethinking-n…

There is a popular stereotype that business leaders are (or need to be) cold-hearted and exploitive. We see this as a perennial device in books/screen/media. While perhaps entertaining, I have not observed these to be common traits amongst successful leaders.

Forgive your former self for being ignorant. This is how you know you are growing and learning. Challenge your current self to always be a beginner at something so that your future self will have more ignorance to forgive.

Cars introduced between the early 70s to the early 80s really were quite horrible. Case in point: 1975 Granada 3400lbs 3.4L V6 producing 70HP (yes seven zero) 0-60 22.9 Seconds 16 MPG Yet, somehow, 300k were sold that year 🤷‍♂️😕

When you are holding a hammer, all of the world appears as a nail. "Maslow's hammer" is a cognitive bias that involves an over-reliance on a familiar tool. Amongst the top barriers to organisational innovation.

Jumping straight to the PRD is where most projects go wrong. The 'upstream' is under-recognized and under-appreciated in an overriding desire to start producing 'tangible' goods. Most organizations conflate production with productivity because production is easier to observe.
a PRD - product requirements document comes after: * a vision * a strategy * A North Star Metric and Inputs * detailed core beliefs/ ssumptions * open-ended research * bet 1-pager(s) * persona-ish things * detailed history of prior bets * learning backlog * (10 other things)

Feel somewhat less lonely to learn that early morning stress-waking is a thing, and has a natural physiological basis. "When I wake at 3am or so, I’m prone to picking on myself. And I know I’m not the only one who does this." -@profrnb
Great news: you're not the only one waking up at 3am to think about every single thing you've ever done wrong thespinoff.co.nz/science/17-…

A reminder from @tom_peters that if your motives are pure, it will come through in your message. At its best, storytelling is an act of giving. My favorite storytellers tend to be fearful public speakers and introverts - you can be sure they are on stage for the right reasons.
Replying to @tom_peters
You can say “uhm” 100 times and pick your nose; the essence of effective speaking, the first 98%, is DESPERATELY giving a shit about the material, having a DESPERATE need to get your message into the audience’s heads and hearts. (ore)

Timeless leadership advice from @LizWiseman @GregoryMcKeown Most leaders are accidental diminishers, deploying learned behaviors which I see as vestiges of the industrial age. "You can get more from your team if you lead like a multiplier." hbr.org/2010/05/managing-you…
