Another sure sign that @spotify are not ‘profitable’. #BrokenRecord
Barcelona is reportedly signing two new sponsorship deals worth ~$490 million over 5 years, per @Shlugassi. • Spotify will pay ~$380M over 5 years • Polkadot will pay ~$110M over 5 years That's nearly $100 million in annual revenue. Insane numbers 🤯

I doubt this is really connected but if people think it is then good
Spotify is down more than 25% since Joe Rogan ramped up his attacks of the vaccine on their platform… they paid him $100 million for this #SpotifyDeleted

Alexis Petridis writes @guardianmusic: “It’s an extremely brave and principled artist who risks incurring Spotify’s wrath in 2022 without the kind of financial safety net that Neil Young has” - but actually there are A LOT of us (28k+), & more every day! unionofmusicians.org/justice…

Whole bunch of new subscribers to Dada Drummer Almanach following this latest post, which is super - but I've got to make a plea for some to choose a paid sub... Streaming sucks and I can't make it up through CD sales, as the piece explains! dadadrummer.substack.com/p/t…

This poster has been in my studio since our @UMAW_ #justiceatspotify protest last year. Not gonna shut up about these vampires until some real policy changes happen.

Spotify "is going through the exact same platform-to-media company transition that Facebook went through" and "could find itself getting caught in the same regulatory drag net as social media companies and regulated in the same way at the same time." Yes, and let's make sure yes
Spotify chose audio over music, but bigger decisions lie ahead midiaresearch.com/blog/spoti… @midiaresearch

Your own copies of media (including digital downloads!) have it all over a platform that gathers data on your every move and profits from it
Re Rogan/Young/Spotify I'd just like to say that my turntable has never propagated misinformation of any kind and the only removing that happens is when I lovingly clean a disk with an antistatic cloth while droning on about the difference btw VG and VG+ grading and who played ba

gmfb. playlists are passive listening, "radio" based on artists are passive listening, algorithmic recommendations are passive listening, autoplay is passive listening... and yet Spotify is not regulated by the laws governing radio, satellite radio or any other "passive" medium
Spotify says ‘majority’ of its streams are active listening and creates new website 'Made To Be Found' >> musically.com/2022/01/27/spo…

Excellent piece by @dada_drummer that puts the lie to the return of the CD — and nicely ties the narrative to massive wealth inequality. Artists are not part of any economic narrative; in fact they are lost in it. There Is No CD Revival, by @dada_drummer dadadrummer.substack.com/p/t…

Spotify sucks, so do most of the other streaming services. We need to build worker power to change how streaming royalties are paid or the race to the bottom will continue. Join @UMAW_

We’re not all Neil Young, but to Spotify @NeilYoungNYA is the same as the rest of us - just another artist to ignore #JusticeAtSpotify #BrokenRecord #FixStreaming

Spotify chooses Rogan over Neil Young because they are not in the music business - they are a tech platform, and however they can get people to spend more time on the platform, that’s where they will go. Amazon is not a bookstore. Spotify is not interested in the future of music

Why are some of us screaming about the problems with Spotify? Because they dominate streaming (about the same market share Amazon has of online retail), and streaming is 83% of all recorded music revenue in the US. 83%. 83%! Our recorded music economy is being destroyed by this

Something to keep in mind: Spotify wants your data/market share/time on the platform more than they want your subscription money
This would seem a good moment to delete your Spotify account
