Interesting trend right now. A number of serious observers/experts/commentators are (very persuasively) scathing about the current covid situation and the lack of preparation by governments. But it doesn't quite feel like it's dominating the news/national discussion yet.

Certain leaders who subscribe to the "pray it away" approach to issues is part of the reason we're in this mess. Sure, if outsourcing existence to an omnipotent being makes sense pray all you like, just don't make that the basis for national governance and risk mitigation.

The 872 km fiber cable connecting Tonga to the outside world may have been broken by the eruption, per operator Southern Cross. Unlike landing station power issues, physical cable repairs can take weeks depending on the depth of the damaged segment. Wishing for a speedy recovery

ℹ️ Communications with the Pacific island nation of #Tonga remain difficult following a massive undersea volcano eruption, with internet service remaining down. The subsea cable operator has reported likely physical damage, and efforts are underway to strengthen satellite links.

Beg to differ, Australia is one of the few countries that can implement a vote winning expulsion without having to really justify it.
Djokovic cannot visit Aust for 3 years. We are the only country that thinks it’s ok to lock out the No. 1 tennis player on the brink of being best in world, not because he’s a health risk, but because he “might” make the 90+% of its citizens already vaxxed not get a booster.

No, Prime Minister, it’s time you got on with fixing the mess you’ve made of rapid testing which has caused a shortage of groceries and workers, put immeasurable stress on families and small businesses, ruined people’s summer, and damaged the economy. #auspol

The end of a week-long, political circus - all avoidable had Morrison not issued #Djokovic a visa in the first place. He then tries to look like a hairy chested Howard: ‘we decide who comes here, nobody else’. Meanwhile hospital crisis off the front page. bbc.co.uk/news/world-austral…

That #Djokovic has just lost before the Federal Court shows how untouchable the Ministers god like powers are. When a multimillionaire tennis player can’t win against the Minister do you now understand why 70 refugees are still locked up 9 years later. He is their judge & jailer.
