Those little nipples are 3D printed plastic (it's obvious from texture) but I'm not really sure their purpose on the the joysticks

People in my mentions are like "oh it's old you know it's reliable!" this thing was slapped together and the controller has failed before

My controls are malfunctioning *console next to me blips, a message is tapped out on it* "Have you tried using claw grip?"

also the controller is WIRELESS and uses AA batteries. it also is very difficult to tell if it has low battery lol

Windows ME-compatible controller aside, the entire sub was a slapped together poorly built custom job. it was not certified by anyone. this is what happens when private companies aren't being checked
Replying to @BirdTickler
Okay this is now my "weird things I find about this submarine" thread So here's the ballast. The journalist who went in it says you release it by getting everyone to sit on one side of the sub so it rolls enough for the pipes to fall off the shelf

Holy shit, the sub DOESNT EVEN HAVE A LOCATION BEACON FOR EMERGENCIES
incredibly funny when the overly-industry-friendly tech journalists don’t realise they’re saying some really damning stuff.

I'm losing it. This sub is a fucking deathtrap. there's no hatch and it's BOLTED SHUT FROM THE OUTSIDE. this is the most dead anyone has ever been
Replying to @LadyDoctorSays
My favourite part is that they're bolted into the vessel from the outside with no way of escaping from the inside so even if they managed to surface (they defs did not), if they're not found on the surface of THE WHOLE ATLANTIC OCEAN within 2 more days they're still dead AF.

for everyone saying "who cares about the controller if the rest of it is well-made," it wasn't. they fired an engineer (allegedly) for safety concerns and got a condemning letter from the ENTIRE MARINE TECH INDUSTRY
Replying to @jsrailton
"the current 'experimental' approach... could result in negative outcomes (from minor to catastrophic) that would have serious consequences for everyone in the industry" Unanimous letter of concern from @MTSociety to the #OceanGate CEO. Via @nytimes int.nyt.com/data/documenttoo…
