One of the major differences I’ve noticed between investors with an entrepreneurship background and investors with MBAs... the past-founders know what questions to ask and what questions are a waste of time. As @sama put it back in 2015
Next time an investor tells you your market is too small, ask them for the size of the market 10 years ago for Airbnb, Uber, or Snapchat.

The problem is that most people can't see the future because their eyes are closed. πŸ‘€

Trying to do less "due diligence" and more "thinking / visualizing" when meeting founders at the pre-Seed / Seed stage. So much of this job is creatively spotting upside & knowing when research doesn't help

+ More large VCs will be doing this at 🌱 like @GreylockVC $500M buys a lot of time to "figure it out" and build networks. πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

At Greylock, being the very first partner to entrepreneurs has always been in our DNA. We are willing to take true seed stage risk, which requires believing in and backing special founders at the idea stage. greylock.com/firm-news/500m-…

Deca-billion is most VC's expectation for startups today, which is insane. That's like asking entrepreneurs to climb Mount Everest with flawless execution and in record time, on your very first try.

Every VC should have to start a company (even a side hustle, bootstrapped one) before telling a pre-Seed founder why they think their company won’t succeed.

1/4: Quick observation: I'm seeing an acceleration of "Keeping up with the Joneses" behaviors in the startup ecosystem. Founders want to grow crazy fast, raise lots of money, and issue press releases about their valuations so that they're "ahead of their peers".

If you don't do this as a smaller VC or GP, the bigger VCs like Tiger Global and Greylock will eat your lunch (dinner and breakfast) 🍽️. Opening your πŸ‘€and πŸ‘‚ is a SuperPower at the seed stage and a requirement to be considered Founder Friendly.
The "Founder Friendly" strategy behind this πŸ‘‰ "Firms like these are investing earlier to gain stakes that help them compete for future late-stage deals with Tiger Global Management and other nontraditional VC investors making inroads with founders." 🐯 πŸ¦„ 🌎
