The next time you see someone argue that people who "can't figure out the command line" on Linux shouldn't do something, remind them that there's a lot of accessibility reasons why a UI / File Manager are needed.

For 2022 can we as a community, please, end this toxic behaviour of command-line bros trying to lock people out of doing things please? 🙏

I've run Linux for probably ~18-19 years now. I struggle with the command line, I sure as hell don't let it stop me doing what I want. Don't let others convince you otherwise. Linux doesn't need to be and shouldn't be a hassle to use.

For when it comes to my latest blunder of breaking my Debian system again recently, the GUI really helps when backing up files. The UI is there to make things easier, while the command line is their for more advanced users.

Exactly, CLIs are great for when you know exactly what you want and you know how to tell it to a computer but GUI is for discoverability and when you don't know how to describe to a computer.

I really hope 2022 will be a year of usability improvements and sane defaults. People shouldn't have to use the command line if they don't want to. Things like setting up drivers and non-free repos should only take a few clicks. Don't overcomplicate stuff for the user.

You are doing it wrong!!! You can only use on shell and the command line, there is no gui...this is why we have only one flavour of linux....errr....err....

I hear that only from people who have left Linux - almost always because of a wrong choice of distro.

I would not have moved to Linux if the UI was not the equal of other platforms. It is more than possible to use Linux for many tasks without going near the command line.

I dunno, some people think they are so posh because they are using command line and think that GUI is for losers... Like what? I really like typing commands in CL but without GUI I would do completely nothing... GUI is just more accessible

I use the CLI when I can, but I don't have the memory I did back in the DOS days. Unless I enter a command every day, it just doesn't stick. 😕
